             WHAT IS THE WILLS PROGRAM

One of the most important documents to you and your loved one is your
will. It should contain clear and specific instructions as to how you want
to transfer your assets. These assets can include a house property, cash
stocks, and bonds; just about anything you want to leave to loved ones and
to charity. One does not have to be wealthy to have a will. An estate can
be $2,000 or $3,000,000. It is just as important on either end of the scale to
have a will; every estate should be treated with the same importance. If
you decide to prepare a will, the time is now. Without a will, your estate
can experience unnecessary delays, legal complications, and perhaps,
substantial tax implications, A will is a common and relatively easy way
to leave a substantial gift to charity.

             YOUR GIFT

Most of us have participated in making financial decisions during
our lives such as buying a car, home or paying college tuition. Wills
and Life Insurance policies are the most frequently chosen options in
giving a substantial gives to AMVETS Giving a substantial gift
to AMVETS can insure that our work for hospitalized Veterans can
be carried on in the future.

             WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

We recomment that you consult with an attorney in preparing your will.
Make a list of everything you want to leave. This is your estate. Determine
how and to whom you want to leave the assets. Make certain that you
understand your will before you sign it. Your attorney will want to know
these specifics about the AMVETS.

The AMVETS Department of PA was formed in June 1945 by just a hand full of World War II Veterans that believed in the same aims as the National Organization, who officially issued the Charter on August 23, 1945. In the 50’s and 60’s, the Organization incorporated it’s inner groups to form a Convention Corporation that became responsible for all the Department Conventions and Meetings; a Building Corporation that became responsible for raising funds for a State Headquarters Building; and a Service Foundation that became responsible for raising funds to assist our Nations Veterans in need while in the VA Hospitals, Nursing Homes or wherever a financial need arose in support of our Veterans after serving their country. Today, the funds raised through the AMVETS Service Foundation are used in part to support the Veterans Programs in the VA Medical Centers, State Nursing Homes, Scotland School for Veterans Children, and other programs that assist all our Veterans throughout the Commonwealth. Our membership has gone from 12,432 in 1994 to a total of 17,507 at the present time, and we are still growing. The AMVETS Department of Pennsylvania is continually striving to serve our Nations Veterans here in the Commonwealth and still works to promote the aims of our National Organization: To Promote World Peace, To Preserve the American Way of life and To Help the Veteran Help Himself AMVETS is, and always will be, Veterans helping Veterans.

AMVETS Membership is open to all men and women who have served honorable in the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves, or National Guard on or after September 15, 1940 and to those men and women who are currently serving our country.
